Has battling the rat race got you tied up in knots? Have you exercised your creative muscles lately? Has the right side of your brain grown flabby from disuse? The Great Spokane Art Party is a great opportunity to reclaim your inner artist in a fun and friendly environment while supporting a great cause.  Beginning in 2007, Blue Prints for Learning has teamed up with local artists to provide an evening of art experience for adults, featuring wine, hors d’oeuvers, and hands on art exploration.  Local artists set up tables where participants can come and have hands on experience making art. The art is varied and there is something for everyone, from making paper to watercolor painting to collage jewelry making. The art becomes a sort of make it yourself thank you gift for attending the event. This event is a critical fundraiser as well as a celebration of the Community Building Children’s Center and Blue Prints for Learning (a teacher training/early childhood advocacy program). For more information about the Children’s Center and Blue Prints for Learning go to www.cbccspokane.org.

If you’re balking at the price of admission ($50 or $80 per couple) to the Great Spokane Art Party, consider not only that you’ll be supporting a great cause (childcare workers provide a critically important service and they are, typically, horribly underpaid); but also consider that for this small chunk of change you’ll get an evening of hobnobbing with some of the great artists in the region, getting messy and having fun playing with all sorts of media, while fueling your creative fires with fine wine and an array of gourmet hors d’oeuvres.

Some of the artist from last year who will be back for 2010:

Olivia Waterman — Silk Fabric Art — Fabric ink applied directly on silk fabric using basic & simple techniques with beautiful results.

Ken Spiering — Dynamic, Lush, & Intense — You thought this was about wine? Water Color painting – demonstration & participation

Clay Connection — Fused Glass Pendants — Cutting glass and designing your own pendant.

Sondra Barrington and Rings & Things — “Found” Objects Jewelry — Using a variety of found objects, fibers, polymer clay & beads; we will create unique wearable art. Metal disc-loop bracelets will be embellished with textures, baubles, charms and dangles. Collage-inspired ephemera is transformed into a visually stunning bracelet!

A stipend is available for participating artists to cover the cost of materials. If you are interested in attending or participating as an artist contact the director of Blue Prints for Learning and the Community Building Children’s Center, Anita Morgan at acmorgan55@gmail.com or 503-777-0822 ext. 1
