July Creative Challenge: Story Walk

July 15, 2010

Everyone has special memories of Spokane that together create a collective history of our beloved city. What if a bunch of locals were to get together and share their best stories with one another as they walked through the city?

That’s the reasoning behind Story Walk, a project organized by friends who want to share stories, build community, and encourage folks to look at places in Spokane in new ways. Story Walk is looking for writers, performers, story-tellers, artists, and folks who are interested in peoples’ history–basically anyone who wants to share a story about a Spokane place that has personal and/or social significance.

We’re counting on you to participate as July’s creative challenge. Here’s all you have to do:

By July 15th, submit a story that centers around a local place that holds significance to you. Your story could be conveyed through prose, poetry, a script for a skit, an audio recording of a song along with lyrics, etc.  Acceptable formats include .doc, .jpg, .mp3, .pdf, .psd, .rtf, .tiff, .txt, .wav

Submissions should include:

  • your story (see format examples below)
  • the location in Spokane that your story relates to
  • your name
  • contact information

A local walking event (along with a possible zine) is being organized for this August, so if your story falls within the boundaries on the map below, it could be shared as part of the tour.

Visit storywalk.forsleepwalkers.com to learn more, or click here to submit a story. Remember, the deadline for submissions is July 15, so start reminiscing.
