Spokane Arts Planning Charrette

Dec 30, 2011 No Comments by

SATURDAY, JANUARY 21 @ 2-5pm
Spokane Public Library (downtown branch)

What is a charrette and why should I go?

Many groups and individuals are hard at work fostering and contributing to Spokane’s arts scene. We at Riverspeak feel that it is time for everyone involved in a piece of this work to come together and set a road map of sorts to insure that the arts remain an integral part of this community.

A charrette is a period of intense planning, and during this one we’ll focus on the following topics, as well as others that are suggested during the time.

  • Venues
  • Publishing
  • Studio Space/Working Artists
  • Workshops
  • Arts Education
  • Patronage
  • Critique
  • Funding for artists, grants
  • Non-traditional media
  • Civic engagement in the arts
  • Community art projects
  • Volunteer needs

We have chosen some topics that were covered in the 2011 State of the Arts Symposium and in other venues, but don’t intend to re-hash the conversations already had. The intention of this event is to move beyond discussion into specific, strategic planning, which ideally will continue in some form after the event.

Please join us for this event, giggidy, help lay the groundwork for the future, and get to know others in the arts community. This is a public event, please share.

P.S. This will be a dynamic, creative process, not a boring 3 hour meeting.
